With superhero films being the rage, it’s not surprising that Ronda Rousey, the heroine in the women’s bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has expressed her intention to play the role of Ms. Marvel. Rousey is famous for being a judoka, mixed martial artist, model and actress. Voted as the Best Female Athlete Ever in a poll by ESPN, she is also UFC’s highest paid fighter and beautiful enough to star in any Hollywood flick.
In a recent appearance in a Reddit special session where anyone can get to ask the Ronda anything, she revealed that she would love to do the role of Ms. Marvel, which Marvel expressed interest in screening by the year 2018. In appearance alone, many will agree that Rousey is a dead-ringer for the role. In her Instagram account, she shared a lot of fan art edits of herself as Ms. Marvel and expressing that she can’t make up her mind which fan art to choose since the creations were all superbly done.
For those not familiar to the world of graphic comics, the comic book character behind the heroine is said to be Carol Danvers, who made an initial appearance in the graphic novels Marvels Super Heroes #13 back in 1968. She was turned into Captain Marvel by a freak explosion that exposed her body to Kree technology. She is a former US Air Force Security Officer turned superhero whose abilities include flight and strength after a chemical infusion was done to her DNA by a Kree alien.
The amount of superhero flicks that Hollywood has churned out these past few years point to the box-office windfalls of these movies. It’s a crazy phenomenon, but the fans have shown their uncanny affinity with this movie genre, especially with the Marvel franchise. No wonder, all actors in Hollywood want to cash in on the craze, and who can blame them?
Marvel has not yet made any announcement regarding who will star in the lead role of Ms. Marvel. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios, it’s a highly anticipated film and is drawing a lot of fan excitement even with the movie’s far off release on November 2, 2018. Although Rousey has expressed interest in being cast in the lead role, the die has not been cast on the part of the producers of the movie.<>pMany names of famous actresses have surfaced, but a lot of the hotter names can appear in the coming years, so it’s not yet certain who the lucky woman will be. Contenders for the roles include big names like Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron and Rebecca Ferguson, who starred in Mission Impossible – Rouge Nation.
The 28-year-old Rousey has still a lot of time to hone her acting skills and get ready for the role before she goes head-to-head with these Hollywood A-listers. With movie experiences in The Expendables 3, Entourage and Fast & Furious 7, she can still get her dream role and land in Marvel’s much-awaited film.
Everything is possible in Hollywood.
